Leisure Services and Bike West Hartford offer several free recreational bicycling programs in Summer 2022. “Wheels on Wednesdays” are short, family-friendly bike rides. No registration is required, and riders can join one or all rides, depending on fitness level or experience. Helmets required. Each trip will be facilitated by a member of Bike West Hartford, a local non-profit organization.
- July 13 at 7 PM – meet at Town Hall parking lot near flagpole
- Aug 3 at 7 PM – meet at Town Hall parking lot near flagpole
- Aug 24 at 6 PM (new time) – meet at the north parking lot in Fernridge Park for Orange Loop Route ride. Trip starts and ends at Fernridge Park. This loop ride, which will start and end at the north parking lot in Fernridge Park, is perfect for cyclists of all ages. We will ride along the well-marked Orange Recreational Route, which consists almost entirely of neighborhood streets with low traffic volumes. Along the route we will pass a cemetery, two elementary schools, two churches, a farm, a tennis club, and we will bike on a paved path through a swampy forest. The terrain includes a few not-too-steep hills, and some very pleasant long downhill glides. Hope to see you there.
